So! On Saturday, May 22nd, Mountain Creek will be hosting a hike park benefiting the VSMO (Vernon Skatepark Memorial Organization).

Expect to see a few jibs, music by DJ Pat Tyler, a BBQ and a bunch of winter-hungry teenagers shredding on Big Bear from 10am – 4pm. Mountain Creek’s Red Bull Skate Bowl will also be open in the South lodge.

After shredding, we got on the road to Reno – where debauchery, delinquents and old people live harmoniously. We found some good Italian food and some even better statues, nearly getting us kicked out of said restaurant.

The vacation came to a close and we all went our separate ways. Some of us were lucky enough to continue on at Whistler Blackcomb. (Screw you, Joe.) Check out the rest of the pictures from our trip on Facebook.

We started with some park laps through Bashful and Lower Bashful. Super fun features, well built jumps – a good mix of your regular jibs with some more unique things scattered around.

Being a fat kid at heart, I have to mention the food. Great made-to-order sandwiches (check out the “Happy Hippie”). Hugh had a Cobb salad that could have been sent from the heavens.

After lunch, we went to the top and literally lapped the run under and around the lift, appropriately named “Dynamite.” Deep powder, amazing trees lines, steeps, natural jibs, cliff drops… If the mountain hadn’t closed on us, we would’ve been there all night.

First time…

- dropping a cliff (Enormous cliff pre-drop in. Standard boulder post-drop in.)
- sliding a legit natural log (Yeah. How ’bout dem apples, Bear Grylls? Boom.)
- left wanting more. (Though, night riding in the trees would have been both dangerous and scary.)

First video shot with Mountain Creek’s new HD camcorder – Canon HF200 . So far, I really love this camera – still trying to figure out the import/export settings and compatibility issues with my version of Final Cut Express.

The meaty part of my job revolves around the internet – social media, multimedia, contacting the media… (Media Specialist. Appropriate, no?) Creek’s never had a static person to do this kind of thing before, so I’m really amped to tell the mountain’s story – be an on-snow apostle of sorts.

It was really great seeing snow so early! As I’m sure you noticed, it was hard to contain my excitement. And by the way, that was my second edit in Final Cut Express. YouTube tutorials are a blessing… and secret fetish of mine. Don’t judge.

Weight, flex, and price are things to consider… but if the binding isn’t comfortable, you’re eff’d. I like the new Park-Specific ASYM Superstrap. The shape’s been changed and the padding looks plush. It’s also customizable – choose between power or mobility. And whoa. This binding’s got wings, literally. But it looks like I’ll have to snag an EST board to use these puppies.

Another binding I really like is the Escapade. (Big surprise.) This beast is available with or without the EST mounting system.

I remember this binding being super light and comfy. The straps were very padded and the frame was flexible, but responsive. Burton rates it a 6. (10 being most responsive) The mesh hi-back is sweet, too.
