2008-2009 Terrain Park ImprovementsLots of improvements are coming to resorts for the 08-09 season. Let’s take a look at some of the resorts that are upping their freestyle game. Mount Snow, VT: Park rats unite! Mount Snow officially became the biggest park on the East Coast. The resort will transform its entire Carinthia peak into a freestyle playground with features varying in size to encourage riders of all ability. That means 95 acres of Lexan and hang time, folks. Carinthia’s base lodge is also getting a makeover. Expect flat screen televisions, outdoor fire pits and free Wifi as you take a break from slaying the park. In other words, get stoked. Mammoth, CA: Mammoth is also upping their game by dumping $750,000 into their new terrain park. They are planning on shaping the ground by manipulating dirt in order to provide more flexibility and room for creativity once the snow falls. Mammoth has also updated their snow making capabilities in order to ensure a solid base when Mother Nature won’t cooperate. Trails will also be made into “Adventure Zones” where more natural and subtle features will be added such as rollers and small bumps. Killington, VT: Last but not least, Killington will be first resort on the East Coast, and 5th in the world, to host Burton’s terrain all natural terrain park. In case you’re confused, The Stash is bringing nature into freestyle riding. Basically, you might not even realize you’re riding through a “park,” as all of The Stash’s features are made of organic substances, aka: wooden jibs of all shapes and sizes. So make sure you stop by Killy to experience a park like no other… or rather, only 4 others in the world. |
