Remember winter?

I love this part of the year because the anticipation builds at an incredible rate. It’s like the beginning of a new relationship. Little things like the leaves changing colors and falling, the first chilly nights, shops getting new product, snowboard trailers dropping and passes going on sale are winter’s way of flirting.

All that in mind, I put together this little teaser video to launch Mountain Creek’s pass product campaign. This is some of my favorite subject matter to work with because it comes so naturally and everyone else feels the same way.

Winter 2010-2011. Let’s go!

iPhone 4 the win.

After much debate and countless hours of research, I’ve jumped ship from Verizon to purchase an iPhone 4. I just love everything about it. Excuse me while I geek out…

The look and feel of this phone is amazing. Very well constructed, feels great in the hand, all buttons work very well and the touch screen is the most responsive I’ve ever used. Love the glass on the front and back, and the stainless steel antenna looks sick. Oh, and Apple’s Retina Display… too pretty for words.

Favorite apps so far?
- Retina HD (hundreds of free HD wallpapers)
- Yelp (yellow pages on steroids)
- Photoshop (basic picture editing)
- Dragon Dictation (good for speech to text)
- Google (speech to search)
- Shazaam (listens to and identifies songs)

Anyway, I went to Walmart to pick up a screen shield and thought I’d film the process. Be on the lookout for more iPhone Vlogs uploaded to YouTube and Facebook.

Beer Fest

Crystal Springs hosted their 2nd annual Beer and Food Festival on August 14th, 2010. Yeah, I was a camera-slinging fool the whole time, but I had SO much fun. It’s like a backyard BBQ on steroids. Hundreds of people came out with one thing on their mind: gluttony. Crystal Springs brought in 15 breweries which gave “samplers” 40 different brews to choose from. The food was great, too. Best pulled pork I’ve had in a while. Sorry mom.

This editing process was also on steroids. I shot over 45 minutes of footy to make a 3 minute video. Eight hours of editing later… here’s the finished product. Enjoy!

Chili 15 ways from Sunday

I went up to the Westfall Winery in Montague NJ last weekend where I sampled different chili recipes and a variety of house wines. If you ever get up there, give “Spanish Passion” a try. It’s a great sangria, just don’t expect a sexy Latino named Juan Augusto to serve it up.

I also had the chance to reconnect with my old friend, Executive Chef Cardie Mortimer. He’s the biggest sweetheart and loves to share his passion for cooking with others. Be on the lookout for his new website dropping in the next few months.

John Mayer at Bethel Woods

Saw John Mayer in concert last week at Bethel Woods. I might be biased (as I think we’re soul mates in some creepy, restraining order kind of way) but I thought the show was incredible. He played so many good songs from Room For Squares, Continuum and Battle Studies . Gotta say, his first and most recent album are my favorites.

My seats definitely weren’t bad – 18 rows from the stage is nothing to scoff at. But it’s safe to say the security guards were growing tired of my sneaking to the front row just to take “one picture. C’mon. Just one picture. Ugh, ok fine. I’ll go back to my seat. Looking forward to having this conversation again in 5 minutes.”

2010-2011 K2 Fastplant

Saw K2’s Fastplant video floating around Facebook and couldn’t help but think 3 things:

1 – Wow. That board does appear to be indestructible.
2 – I’d hate to be one of the people bending that board. Somehow, I know it’d go terribly wrong.
3 – That was an intense voice over.

“Whatever you thought about snowboards, hit reset. The NEW 2010-11 Fastplant™ signals yet another first for K2 and for snowboarding: the INDESTRUCTIBLE* core. You read that right! Skate-inspired and eco-friendly, Fastplant’s new Bambooyah™ core – pioneered by K2 mad scientists – signals the arrival of a game-changing breed of park tool. All jacked-up on JIB ROCKER, the Fastplant delivers unequalled pop, strength and durability. Combined with signature graphics, the ultimate park board is born!”- K2 Snowboarding

Meathead Films: Work It Out Trailer

The Meadheads came through Mountain Creek last spring and filmed some shots for their new movie, Work It Out. They just released the trailer and it looks like a sick movie. Even makes me want to… dare I say, try skiing?

Summer shredding.

So I put together this video for Mountain Creek and LHM Wake School. Thanks to this partnership, I’ve added wakeboarding into the rotation. I have to say, days and experiences like this make me think I have the best job in the world. I still can’t say I enjoy summer, but I hate it a little less now.

Virtual Sunglasses? There’s an app for that.

If you’re following me on Twitter or Facebook, you probably already know I’m in search* of a new cell phone. Just a few hours ago, I had my mind (somewhat literally) blown by the Vuvuzela app (Yes, it exists, and thank God the World Cup is over.) Now, people can virtually try on Electric sunglasses thanks to the newest version of its iPhone application.

“What’s New in Version 3.0? The major new release in 3.0 is the Rock The Volt feature. Now you can try on our range of sunglasses, pick the frame that fits you best and share labeled images of yourself in Electric sunglasses with your friends and family. Using our custom built sizing system you can see which model looks best on you or recommend shades for your friends. Electric is the only eyewear company that offers a mobile experience of this caliber.”

If you’re an anti-impulse online shopper like me, then you might benefit from this app… even if it does look like your 6-year-old cousin drafted the sunglasses in Microsoft Paint. Overall, the concept is pretty sweet (and far more useful than a vuvuzela) but it’s not enough to push me over to iPhone nation. Let the search continue.

*a black hole of endless speculation, bias and megapixels. Sigh.

Riding Diablo

In lieu of my summer of firsts, I’ve committed myself to try downhill mountain biking, wakeboarding, and possibly even golf. Granted, I’ll need to stock up on some sweet polo shirts… but I digress.

So Hugh, Chrissy and I took to Diablo Freeride Park at Mountain Creek. Hugh’s got some experience in cross country riding, Chrissy has been on a few downhill trips, and me? Total novice. Let the madness ensue.
